Making plans and fresh starts in 2021

For many of us, the last few months have given us cause to reflect on the things that are important to us.  With a series of lockdowns restricting everybody’s movements and activities, many of us have spent a great deal more time enjoying our gardens and the nature all around us.   Many of these people may be keen to continue with their newly discovered pastimes and interests.  Brogdale needs volunteers – so this could be a match made in heaven!

About Brogdale Collections

Brogdale Collections is a charity based in the Kent countryside near Faversham.  It is home to acres and acres of heritage fruit orchards and home to the National Fruit Collections – the largest collection of temperate fruits in the world.

The Charity is responsible for giving the public access to this amazing collection and to share knowledge, expertise and passion for fruit growing, heritage fruits, nature and wildlife.  It has facilities such as a weather station, wildlife garden and play areas for children; holds events to promote and share the orchards and their fruit trees; runs educational visits for schools and workshops for adults. It also facilitates year-round access to the orchards so visitors can enjoy the trees throughout the seasons.

The work of Brogdale’s volunteers

Brogdale Collections relies on the help of its team of volunteers to support the Charity in a number of ways, including:

  • Looking after our Wildlife Garden
  • Gardening and tidying across the whole Brogdale site
  • Pruning fruit trees (we provide training for this)
  • Bee keeping
  • Making bunting
  • Painting and decorating
  • Picking and packing fruit
  • Helping with events and workshops

When life returns to normal, a highly-trained selection of Brogdale’s knowledgeable volunteers are also orchard guides – providing tours of the orchards to members of the public.
