Foraging Walks: About the Course

Time: 10am – 1pm or 2pm – 5pm, 14th & 15th September 2023

Start & Finish Location: The Plough Inn, Sittingbourne (transport needed).

Michael will start the morning with a talk and discussion at the Plough Inn pub on Lewson Street, Sittingbourne with tea and coffee to get you off to a warm start. The walk will take a circular route around the Kent countryside where you will learn to identify the wide variety of edible plants and fungi available in the wild. The walk will end back at the pub, giving you the opportunity to stop for lunch, choosing from the delicious pub menu. You will take away a better understanding of food in the wild and how to use what’s just outside your doorstep.

You will need: shoes for walking, appropriate clothing, notepad and pen (if you wish to take notes). Please Note: These foraging walks are not suitable for those with walking difficulties as the terrain is not always flat and the distances walked can be lengthy.

About the Instructor:

Michael White was born and raised in the country and loved it so much that he stayed to build a self-sufficient life for him and his family.  The skills and techniques he teaches are those he uses daily to sustain his way of life. Michael’s knowledge and enthusiasm for the subjects ensures an inspirational and informative day. For over ten years Michael has run courses and workshops. He has introduced hundreds of adults and children to a host of country activities.  He has always had a particular passion for foraging and wild food. Michael is also a well-known writer and lecturer on the subject. Just to prove that it really is possible to live off the land, in 2009 Michael walked in excess of 300 miles from St. David’s, Wales to his home in Kent living  exclusively on wild foraged foods.

What People Say…
‘Michael was exceptional – friendly, engaging, informative and extremely knowledgeable. He had a great connection with the group, answered any questions clearly and a passion for his subject that was easily conveyed to those who had some knowledge and none (most of us). Highly recommended thoroughly enjoyed, thank you.
